IRIS – The Trashcan from the Future

Iris is a crazy-unique trashcan straight out of a starship from the 22nd century.  An infrared sensor detects approaching motion and opens the top, allowing a completely touch-free process.  The name comes from the way the Iris opens, using horizontally mounted blades just like the lens of a camera, or the contractions of the human eye.

Because there’s no pop-up lid, the Iris can fit in much smaller spaces than traditional waste bins, like under cabinets and desks.  The top can be powered by batteries or an optional power adapter.

The trashcan of the future can currently be backed on their Kickstarter page here.
